The Next Five Years
Reflection
In the next five years, I have set several goals that focus on my growth as an educator and as a colleague. As an educator, I hope to continue to improve my craft by learning from experts, by collaborating with my colleagues, by continuously growing, and by taking on a more serious leadership role within my school. As a colleague, I hope to strengthen my relationships with my peers, and to interconnect our disciples. This starts by opening lines of communication with my colleagues, to continue to build trust and the ability to work collaboratively.
There is an overwhelming amount of resources available for teachers. Most (including me) tend to lack the time to wade through all of them to find the gems. There are several PD opportunities that I applying for, including a fellowship for the 2016-2017 year that would fulfill my goal to interconnect science with other disciplines. I also plan to continue to take courses through Udacity and Coursera; and perhaps pursue the MAET through MSU. This program has increased my exposure to other pioneers in the teaching profession, through Twitter, blogs, podcasts, and Youtube channels. I feel that I have a much better understanding of the kind of support I can find, and the types of resources that are available to me.
As scary as all of these changes are, I feel that I have a wonderful support system at my school and at home. My principal will fully support my desire to take on a more prominent leadership role within the ILT and in the larger school community. My principal is a truly remarkable lady, one who has a lot of wisdom to offer. I look forward to learning from her as I continue to grow. I also have an amazing partner teacher; she continually improves her craft and inspires me to take chances. I can always count on her for support and guidance.
