ImagineIT: Spring Timeline
Spring is in the air (very briefly, today with 47 degree weather). It's hard to believe that I first implemented the ImagineIT project with my students 21 weeks ago. At this point, we have talked about our understanding of patterns and systems, and we are discovering them in the world around us. We photographed patterns found in cloud formations and precipitation and added them to a growing collection of artifacts.
As we continue our exploration of Earth Science, we are going to expand our search of patterns to the entirety of our universe. When we finish the astronomy unit., we can finally complete an extensive analysis of systems within systems. The visual representations from this analysis will serve as a grand conclusion to the ImagineIT project portfolios that my students are creating. At the end, we are going to create a short video explaining the patterns that are found in nature and present these in class. They will serve as a celebration of the hard work we've done all year long on this project.
Looking back to the implementation of this project, I wish that I had integrated it into our curriculum even more. At this point, we come back and add to the project at the end of a unit; I wish that we could add on more often (but time is always lacking!). I am looking forward in helping my students strengthen their skills on visual presentations and creating innovative ways of presenting information. We are going to focus on making effective videos and also using stop motion capture.
My greatest hope is that at the end of this year, when our exploration of Earth Science is complete, my 7th graders want to continue this project next year. Physical Science would be a very interesting study through a lens of systems and patterns as well!
